PHILOSOPHY OF THE PROGRAM
FUN WITH PURPOSE
“It’s Childs’ Play To You But It’s Learning To Them”
Research shows that during the early years, fun and learning are one and the same. Young children who are allowed to learn through play actually become better students later on. Preschoolers explore and learn about themselves and their world through developmentally appropriate play. Preschool is fun with a purpose. Children explore their growing abilities, from motor skills and socialization. Play for a child is thinking time, language time, problem solving time, memory planning time and investigating time. Keeping in mind that each child is individual, the program will be flexible, competent and will motivate and reflect the needs of each child. Since our program strives to be one of high quality, our curriculum revolves around developmentally appropriate practices.

Early Learning Foundation
The North Vancouver School District’s Early Learning Foundations (ELF) Program is a well-established partnership between the school district and local early learning (preschool and childcare) providers. Consistent with the Ministry of Education’s on-going expansion of early learning programs in schools, including StrongStart and Ready, Set, Learn, the Early Learning Foundations program is designed to provide quality early learning opportunities for children in our community.
ELF programs, which are located on site or in close proximity to North Vancouver schools, support early childhood learning and address the issue of school readiness by increasing the connection between preschool and elementary school educators. ELF providers work in close collaboration with school-based personnel to enhance children’s connection to the local school community and to provide them with a smooth transition to full day kindergarten.
The Early Learning Foundations program (ELF) is based on a commitment to quality early learning within a flexible, play-based environment. Research has consistently demonstrated the importance of play in promoting healthy physical, intellectual and emotional development in children.
The Ministry of Education’s Early Learning Framework notes:
"Most of children’s early learning takes place through play. Play is so important that its significance in children’s lives is recognized by the United Nations as a specific right…” (p. 12)
ELF programs have a unique affiliation with the North Vancouver School District and reflect our commitment to providing high quality, universally accessible and developmentally appropriate preschool, child-care, or before and after school programs. All ELF providers meet ECE licensing guidelines and policies, fulfill the requirements of their lease agreement with the school district, and adhere to the guiding principles and play-based philosophy of the ELF program.

Testimonials
I have nothing but Great things to say about Sunshine Preschool. My 5 year old son was enrolled in their program for the last two years, Ages 3-5. The staff at Sunshine is more then exceptional and went over and above for my son. It is not a very big environment from the outside but let me tell you they have made it such a welcoming, loving and spacious place for your little ones to grow.
They have an Art corner, Water table, reading corner, imagination play kitchen area, trains, light table, doll houses and lots more. My son loved being there and made lots of friends along the way that he will be joining in Kindergarten.
They do monthly fun exciting things with the children as in bring in different cultures and activities, hands on cooking days and celebrations for the holidays.
The difference between this preschool and other preschools that I have researched is, the teachers are a lot more Hands-On the classes are smaller and your children get the one-on-one attention to make the transition easier as well as feel more at home.
As I'm sad to see my son Branch off to kindergarten and leave sunshine my little girl will be entering the program next year.
So thank you from the bottom of my heart all the teachers at Sunshine Preschool for making this experience one of the best so far.
